Acne is a problem that perhaps not everyone, but most of the teenagers face today. A lot of people make an issue about it, but let’s remember that acne is natural and completely normal for teens to have.
When I had severe acne problems, people looked at me as if I were almost less human. But you need to be confident about yourself, and don’t let those comments get to you. Acne is just a phase of your teen years, it’ll eventually go away.
While I did consult a dermatologist for about a year, I wouldn’t recommend you take the same medication and ointments as I because everyone has a different acne type. However, following are some of the things that helped me a lot with making my skin better!
- INCREASE YOUR INTAKE OF WATER:
Everyone probably tells you to increase the intake of water all the time, and its about time you actually do it.
I am someone who hardly had a glass of water a day. But as I increased my consumption of water from 1 glass a day to 10 glasses a day, my skin had a noticeable difference in its appearance. Besides, it is summer you really need to consider water as one of your summer essentials and carry a water bottle with you everywhere!
2. AVOID SUGAR AND FRIED FOOD:
My doctors kept telling me to cut down on chocolate and fried food! It’s going to be hard, but try implementing the “no sugar, no fried food” rule for a week.
You’ll be surprised with the results.
3. ALOE VERA AND LEMON:
The Aloe Vera plant and lemons can work wonders.
Skip getting Aloe Vera lotions and gels. You need to get an aloe vera plant in your garden and apply the gel of the fresh plant on your face! Aloe vera can never let you down. It helped me with my acne the most.
Lemons are natural toners of skin, they help with the removal of blemishes and acne marks. Apply a small amount of lemon juice to your face as a toner every night, but make sure it doesn’t irritate your skin. Rinse after 15 to 20 minutes.
4. TEA TREE OIL PRODUCTS:
These tea tree oil products have been my favorite, and are suitable for everyone with blemished or acne prone skin. The left bottle is a face wash, and is the 5th one I’ve bought till now! The middle tube is a lotion which I normally use before applying makeup.
The tube on the right-hand side is a tea tree oil BB cream. Makeup might add to your acne, so I would recommend you use this instead of foundation.
5. A GOOD CLEANSER:
A nice cleanser can honestly change your life. You need to cleanse your skin every night before you go to sleep.
On the left, there is a Bodyshop Tea tree oil scrub, which I use while I shower. I use the Acta White Cleanser on daily basis, once in the evening and once before going to bed. It will help cleanse your skin of any dirt and will make it glow. It is easily available at any pharmacy.
6. Midnight Recovery Oil:
This one product has helped with the progress of my acne the most. It is the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. It isn’t available in Pakistan, hence I ordered it from the U.K.
I apply 2-3 drops of it every night before I go to bed, and my skin feels refreshed in the morning. While I was still suffering from acne and I started to use this oil, I saw considerable change in the visibility of my pimples in the morning. This is a must try!
However, an alternate to this oil can be the tea tree oil bottles available at the body shop. You need to be careful with it though because tea tree oil might cause dryness.
