Pakistan’s 6th Population Census kickstarted in Punjab by house listing of Punjab Assembly building.
Deputy Speaker Sher Ali Gorchani along with Provincial Census Commissioner Arif Baloch Marked the Assembly building with 001 to launch the census.

Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif also took part in population census by marking his home in Model Town as 006. After, this he also posed with the team comprising three civilians and a soldier.
Census in Punjab would be divided into two phases. In the first step from 15 March to 15 April 16, surveyors would cover 16 districts while in the second phase from 25 April to 25 May reset would enumerate population from rest of the regions.

Provincial Census Commissioner Arif Baloch told in an interview that Summary of the results would be presented to the nation in the month of August.
Apart from counting houses and residents, the census would also take into account the homes, madrassahs, and prisons to make sure that every person’s record makes to the paper.
Population Census 2017 is being done after 19 years. Gathering data about the people and their whereabouts is necessary to ensure that resources are distributed in a just way, and friendly policies are formulated to keep a check and balance on demand and supply while considering the ever-increasing number of people of the country.
