The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan to appear before the commission on November 2, 2016. Seven PMLN’s members of the national assembly had filed a reference with the election commission of Pakistan, against the PTI chairman Imran Khan and party leader Jahangir Tareen.
The reference was issued under clause (2) of the article 63 of the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973. The commission has set the date of the hearing to be on the 2nd of November, 2016. The notice that has been issued to Mr. Imran Khan states that if they fail to appear before the commission the issue will be addressed in their absence.
Through this notice not much has been left to the imagination of the public; the supporters of PTI are left to believe that this is a state tactic to disrupt the Dharna plans that the PTI chairman has just announced yesterday. PTI changed the date of Dharna from October 30 to November 02, 2016 because the earlier date fell on a weekend when the official business of government remains off.
PTI has taken the roads on Panama Leaks issue after opposition and government remained unable to reach to a common point with regard to TORs. Earlier, PTI also demanded an investigation of the leaks by FIA and NAB but was never met. After their demands were not met Tehreek-e-Insaf, yet again decided to hit the roads. The party conducted a powerful protest rally in Raiwind near Jati Umra House of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
A few days ago, on October 13th, the PTI chairman while presiding over a meeting of key officials of the party had stressed the necessity of PTI keep pushing on the Panama leaks issue. he had said that the government wants to bury the topic but it is up to the PTI and its workers and officials to not let them forget the issue until they submit to accountability.
