Ceremony to change the command of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee was held in Rawalpindi. General Zubair Mahmood Hayat took charge of new chairman while replacing Gen Rashid Mehmood. New Army Chief, Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa also participated in the ceremony. Men from all three
High ranked officers from all the three armed forces attended the ceremony. General Zubair Mahmood Hayat is 17th Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee; he was awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz. He also served as the Chief of General Staff and also as the Core Commander Bahawalpur. Joints Chiefs of Staffs Committee is an advisory body and provides advice to the defence minister and also to Prime Minister.
What are responsibilities of joint chiefs of staff Committee
Joints Chiefs of Staffs Committee is an advisory body and provides information to the defence ministry, National Security Council and also to Prime Minister.
The committee actually comprises of four-star Generals from all three armed forces appointed by the president on the advice of prime minister and chiefs from all the forces. Although the need for establishing a committee that could provide effective communication and coordination among all three military forces was strongly felt before, the committee was finally founded after the 1971 war as a result of Hamud-ur-Rehman commission report’s recommendation. The said report was a primarily as study to look for the actual failures of 1971 war.
