Yesterday ( 18th June) Pakistan not only made their way, for the first time ever, into the finals of ICC Champions Trophy finals but also won against their arch nemesis India by 180 runs *yes you heard it right!*
Pakistan set up a target of 339 runs for the men in blue to chase, but their batting line collapsed under the daunting bowling attack by Pakistani team with all men out at 158 runs in the 31st over. This was Pakistan’s second highest score against India; the last time Pakistan beat India was also during a match of ICC Champions Trophy in 2009.
It all started when Virat Kohli, India’s Captian, won the toss and chose to bat first. At that time it seemed like a bad thing for Pakistan as we are not known for our batting skills * Let’s be honest*, but a solid partnership of 128 runs between our openers Fakhar Zaman and Azhar Ali proved otherwise, and after that, there was so stopping the men in green. From their attitude to their body language, it was clear that men in green were all set to win.
Fakhar scored his maiden ODI century by smashing 114 runs off 106 delivers, whereas Azhar and Muhammad Hafeez both made a half century and Azam Babar scored 46 off 52 deliveries, taking the game in Pakistan’s favor and busting all the myths related to how Pakistani team has a weak batting line.
After the batsmen comes to our star bowlers who never fail to amuse us; left arm fast, Muhammad Amir, when came to pitch, everyone could see that he was there to attack mercilessly. Muhammad Amir took three crucial wickets- Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan. Hassan Ali didn’t fall short as well and matched Amir by taking wickets of MS Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin, and JJ Bumrah, leaving no hope for the Team India.
In Champions Trophy history, only once had that happened before ( in 2013) where the team batting first won the final; the other five times the chasing team won.
With the hearts filled with joy and pride, Pakistani all around the world are celebrating their big win against India; a win that proved what the men in green and capable of doing once they set their minds to it, Pakistan Zindabad!
