Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) eminent leader, Firdaus Ashiq Awan joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday. Before the announcement, she had a meeting with PTI’s chairman Imran Khan in Nathia Gali. But this is not the first time that any PPP leader joined PTI. Leaders from PPP like Noor Alam Khan, Ashraf Sohna and Samsam Bukhari had also left PPP to join PTI before.
Awan remained Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting between 2011 and 2013 and one of those few women who has contested the election on the general seat.
Firdaus Ashiq Awan is basically from Sialkot, Punjab that is the hometown of PTI’s leaders Usman Dar and Umar Dar but not to forget Federal Minister Khwaja Asif is from Sialkot too. Khwaja Asif has got a history of mocking and ridiculing women whether it’s on tv talk shows or in Pakistan’s very prestigious parliament. As currently and for a long span PTI is the biggest threat to PMLN, so PTI’s women are on his hit list.
The National Assembly witnessed uproar last year when Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif called Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Shireen Mazari a ‘tractor trolley.’ The obnoxious remarks were condemned by the opposition members, forcing Speaker Ayaz Sadiq to expunge those words from the assembly proceedings. It was Asif’s vulgar outburst against Mazari which should be condemned.
Now that Firdaus Ashiq Awan joined PTI and from Asif’s hometown so what would be Asif calling a woman from his own hometown? How would Asif respond to her joining of PTI? Maybe like, “Imran Khan found a new tractor trolley.” Imran Khan this time found a tractor trolley from the district of sharam-o-haya. Khwaja Asif is the same person who was recorded saying “Koi sharam hoti hai, koi haya hoti hai” to Imran Khan but where all this sharam-o-haya kind of lessons went when it comes to his ownself? One should seek shame when passing such vulgar and offensive remarks about women. But offending women besides your own in public is what Pakistani men are expert at, but when it comes to their own women, maybe they seek some sharam-o-haya.
In Pakistan, women are being harassed at work places by their male colleagues, but instead of crippling over it, women should gag them by massive protest and expostulate. Firdaus is also not less than an iron lady and a great addition to PTI, but her political career isn’t clean too. But, maybe she gets cleaned by Insaf laundry powder after joining PTI. That’s how change and revolution will take place in Pakistan.
