The meeting of government’s inquiry committee to investigate Cyril’s news is being held in Islamabad today. Justice Retired Amir Raza is presiding the 30 membered committee that includes the officials from prestigious organisations such as FBI, ISI, IB and MI along with Secretary Establishment., will start by analysing the very subject of news.
Famous Pakistani Satirist Ibn-Insha once said, “If the ruler of the state contradicts story then this means news is right”.
The case of Dawn’s writer Cyril Almeida’s News published in Dawn, on 6th Oct, is no less different than this fact. Now, keeping in view the significance of news related to the matters of national interest, the government already took the necessary steps, such as putting the name of Cyril in ECL and scapegoating its information minister by asking him to resign so that national security is not jeopardised.
The committee that is looking at the matter will first analyse the subject matter of Cyril’s news, its significance and then inquire into the way through which details of a high-profile secret meeting of government and army were leaked to a journalist. The committee is entitled to give recommendations within 30 days.
