General Qamar Bajwa

General Qamar Javed Bajwa has been appointed as the 16th Army Chief of Pakistan, while General Zubair Hayat is made the Chairman joint chief of staff committee.

New army chief belongs to the Baloch Regiment; he has served as the core commander Rawalpindi. Earlier he served in GHQ as Director General Training and Evaluation, the same post on which Gen Raheel Sharif served before being appointed as Army Chief. Gen Bajwa was also awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2011.

Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa was commissioned in Baloch Regiment on 24 Oct 1980. He graduated from Canadian Forces Command and Staff College Canada and also attended Post Graduate University Monterey in California, USA.

New Army chief has a vast experience on the issue of Kashmir and situation of tribal areas, as he commanded the Pakistan army’s ten Corps that overlooks the Line of Control.During his tenure, he also commanded the 16 Baloch Regiment and Frontier Core Northen areas. He has also served as the Chief instructor and school of Infantry and Tactics Quetta, and command and staff college Quetta and National Defence University (NDU).Given his expertise and insight on the Pakistan’s key issues, Gen Bajwa’ appointment is indeed strategic for the prestigious post of Army chief that comes with a lot of responsibilities for the state’s defence.

He also commanded the United Nation Peace mission in Congo as Brigade Commander along with Indian Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh who was Division Commander there.

Lt General Zubair Hayat as Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee  

Lt GenZubair Hayat has been appointed as the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee. He belonged to the artillery regiment and was commissioned on 24 Oct 1980. He graduated from Fort Sill Oklahoma, USA, Command and Staff College Camberley the United Kingdom and National Defence University.

At present, he is serving as the Chief of General Staff, due to this position he got the chance to work with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. He also commanded the 31 Corps Bahawalpur.

Gen Zubair also served as the Director Strategic Plans Division (SDG) and Core Commander Bahawalpur. He also remained the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Sialkot. He also served as the Private Secretary to COAS and Director General Staff studies in GHQ.

Father of General Zubair Hayat was also a Major General, and his two brothers are also serving as Lt Generals in Pakistan Army; Maj Gen Amir Mehmood Hayat serving as DG Analysis in ISI and Lt General Umer Hayat as Chairman Pakistan Ordinance Factory.
