Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today denied holding offshore companies in a written response to the Supreme Court on Panamagate petitions. PM said he had declared all his assets in 2013, hence was not liable for disqualification under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution. Here the questions rise that how authentic and real is the process of declaring assets? We also need a hell of reforms in every sector. The statement further mocked us that PM has been paying his taxes regularly.
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Awami Muslim League (AML) submitted their terms of references (ToRs) at the Supreme Court today for a judicial commission to probe corruption allegations against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The government of PML-N didn’t submit any TORs in court today. Unfortunately, the federal government and the opposition could not agree on drafting joint ToRs. The government still wants the generic TORs sparing PM from the whole episode.
Expressing displeasure over the failure of Sharif family’s counsel to submit a reply on behalf of Maryam, Hussain and Hassan, the five-member larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali gave an ultimatum to the premier’s three children to respond to the notices served regarding the investigation of Panama Leaks.
Justice Asif Saeed Khosa observed that by law if an individual fails to submit a reply in any matter, it is to be considered that he or she is accepting the allegations.“Why there is no response from PM’s children who are the real adverse party in the case,“Are you wasting the court’s time,”” Justice Azmat Saeed remarked.
Names of several Pakistanis including Nawaz Sharif’s children Maryam, Hussain, and Hasan surfaced in one of the world’s biggest ever data leaks through an online database and made public by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). Prime Minister had formed an inquiry commission to probe his family’s alleged links to offshore accounts before Panamagate in Court which has no face value and significance at all.
PM is giving us the same lollipop while Panamagate in Court, that his name never appeared in the leaks, he doesn’t have any offshore company, none of his children is under his indemnify, he has no connection with their earning sources. If he doesn’t know trust Maryam earnings, why he has given her the key positions in the governmental institutions? We are all aware that PML-N is a family governed Party, If Maryam Nawaz is corrupt, fingers will be pointed towards PM. Nawaz Sharif has distributed the whole administration in his family. He is a family man; now he cannot hide under this sheet.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) also failed to probe the case. These all institutions are just names, not bodies, we are wasting our tax money on them, it’s better to deconstruct them. Panamagate in Court will make us ponder on several issues.
