Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique is again in the news and this time for illegally making an extension to his Paragon Housing Society in Lahore without meeting the legal requirements in the acquisition of Punjab government’s land.
Paragon Housing Society has recently launched its expansion and sale of new plots and houses. It is running massive advertisement campaign both in print and electronic media. Reportedly, land it is offering for sale in the form of plots and houses is not legally occupied.
According to reports, most of the land where Paragon has launched new project belongs to the Punjab government. “Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif earlier had announced a new Ashiana Housing on Barki Road on the land next to Paragon housing society which belonged to Punjab government. In a smart move, Saad Rafique first through his influence stopped Ashiana then through a private contractor SPARCO entered into a shoddy contract in connivance with it to build some low-cost housing there. Later this land has been added to the Paragon Housing Society’s new extension and subsequently launched a new project,” said an official in the Punjab government while talking to Outlook Pakistan.
The official further said,
“Paragon run by Rafique, and others have Lahore Development Authority (LDA) approval for “only few hundred canals.”
“Contrary to those thousands of canals have been added and sold illegally without getting approval from LDA. Owing to housing society’s violations LDA has imposed an indefinite ban on all commercialization on Barki Road. Paragon has been selling and expanding residential as well as commercial units,” the official said.
“Another source said Paragon has so far collected Rs14billion of “innocent people and investors.”
This is going to become another big housing scam. Will the National Accountability Bureau intervene?
