The efforts of Chaudhrys of Gujrat – Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Moonis Elahi – may bear the fruit and well before the 2018 general election the “fourth political force” appears on the political front of Pakistan.
Mr. Shujaat and Mr moonis have been given the task by their party – PML-Q – to bring all factions of the Muslim League, except the N-League, on one platform to introduce a fourth political force to claim its share in the 2018 election.
Both Shujaat and Moonis Elahi had met former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf in Dubai last Sunday and asked him if he could return to Pakistan and use his political clout to make a new political force – United Muslim League.
There has been PML-Q believed that there had been a political vacuum, especially in Punjab, and the new party could make its mark in the run-up to the 2018 elections. “The United Muslim League will not only take on board disgruntled leaders of other parties but will also be in a position to make seat-adjustment with like-minded parties in the coming elections,” a PML-Q insider says. Successive meetings with the leaders of PML factions and disgruntled leaders of other parties are on the card.
The PML-Q believes that it is the right time for like-minded political figures to get together on one platform to challenge especially the N-League in coming election. It thinks once a United Muslim League or a kind of similar arrangement will have its distinction in the presence of PML-N, PTI, and PPP. Even the new force will be in a position to have seat-adjustment with PTI and PPP at closely contested seats especially in Punjab where the Chaudhrys have an impact in certain districts.
In Sindh PML-Functional chief Pir Sibghatullah Rashdi and PML-N disgruntled Syed Ghaus, Ali Shah have shown interest in joining the ‘fourth force.’
In Punjab PML-N disgruntled leaders like Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa and Leghari families, a 20-member group of PML-N forward bloc and even some PTI angry leaders are eager to join hand with the fourth political force.
“We will make a dhamaka (blast) on the political front… let first the exercise kicked off by Ch Shujaat and Moonis Elahi be completed. The new political party may be in the name of United Muslim League, or some other name will surface by mid of 2017,” the insider concludes. — Outlook Pakistan
