Why Wasim Akram will not coach the KKR in IPL 2017 season


Wasim Akram will not coach the KKR (Kolkatta Night Riders) in IPL (Indian Premium League ) season 2017 due to professional commitments and time constraints, ESPN reported.

To express his sentiments over the Wasim Akram’s decision of missing IPL season 2017 Venky Mysore MD and CEO of KKR said, “We will miss Wasim Bhai who has been part of the KKR family for the last few years and has played a significant role in our title triumphs in 2012 and 2014,”

In return Wasim also acknowledged such recognition and attribution of the win by the team and also praised it by saying. “I have loved the camaraderie in the KKR team and have enjoyed every opportunity to mentor [it] over the years.” He further added, “I am surely going to miss being part of the dressing room, but I wish the team continued success.”

Akram had joined the KKR in 2010 while working as bowling mentor. Earlier in 2013 he had left the team shortly for family commitments. As a coach with KKR Waseem had a good time with the team, as evident from this rare video where he once bowled in IPL.


In Pakistan, he is the instructor, brand ambassador and director of the PSL Franchise, Islamabad United. The second season of PSL is scheduled to begin in February. He also works as a mentor in cricket camps, Fast bowler Muhammad Amir, the emerging bowling talent in Pakistani cricket was also a discovery of the Wasim Akhtar.
